Play ball!

Okay so here’s the skinny (and I say skinny because there aren’t a lot of details yet).  We’re looking at the Mariners playing the Tampa Bay Rays on either June 4th or June 5th at Safeco Field in Seattle, WA.  I’ve told everyone I’ve talked to by either phone or Facebook Sunday, June 4th.  The thing that’s wrong about that is that June 4th is a Saturday.  If you’ve made plans or said “Okay, I can do Sunday the 4th“, I need to know if you prefer Saturday or Sunday (which ever works best for your families or travel plans).  So far I have the following:

Commitments from:

  • Charlie & Cathy (2)
  • Bobby + family (4)
  • Melanie + kids (4)
  • Bryan + family (4)
  • Cheryl + family (4)

If my numbers are right, we’re looking at 18+ people.  I’m waiting to hear about June + family, Janie + family and Lori + family (I’m hearing rumors of Tara + family joining as well?!).

If you have an update that isn’t posted here, I need to know about it so I can coordinate tickets.  I’d like to get the tickets nailed down no later than May 1st so we can be sure to get the tickets.  April 15th would be much better but I also know that people need time to make sure they can commit.

Open up discussion in the comments!  Can’t wait to see you all!

Nerrrrrrrrrrdy

I’m now using Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit to be exact) exclusively at work on my computer and I LOVE it.  Did I mention I’ve got a new job?  I’ll get into that later.  I just needed to quickly jot down a quick nerd-type-post and be on my way.  I’ve got some stuff to throw out there about a family get-together so that will have to take more priority for the time being.

Yay for new themes (*sigh*)

Changed around the look and feel of the blog.  Again.  There’s a method to my madness though.  If I like it, I’ll buy it.  Consider this more or less like a “kicking the tires” session.  :)

I think I can, I think I can…

It’s almost as if it gets down to who is more stubborn (and I refer to my blog as a “who” in this case).  Me, or as you may have guessed, the blog.  What a pain!  What a great learning experience.  It’s like one of those challenges that you keep losing at but, because you’re determined enough to see it through no matter the cost, you keep pushing through.  What started it all was that I updated part of the blog and it basically reset the ENTIRE thing.  Not that this is at all interesting, I’m determined to make sure it’s working.  :)  I spent the next half a day (seemingly) reworking, fixing and resetting everything.

That’s what I love about WordPress blogs.  They’re completely fixable.  They’re completely customizable.  They’re completely user-friendly.  Even for people like me.

Now that I’ve band-aided it together, it’s off to start my taxes.  :)

VICTORY!

OK, I win.  Got the danged thing fixed.  It was my fault (as one would suspect).  Now that we’re up and going, I’ll have more time to concentrate on adding actual content.

More to come.  Hopefully sooner than later.  For now, I’m uploading photos.  Check back on the “Pictures” link.  :)

Disney!

Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse in front of Cinderella's Castle. Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, Orlando, FloridaSo who doesn’t love Disney?  I can actually think of someone.  Odd, but true.  The absolute happiest place on Earth!  I could go on and on for pages upon pages about the reasons I’m one of those “weird Disney nuts”.

We recently took a trip to Walt Disney World (see picture on right) with a pretty massive group of family.  I’m looking for a way to get a gallery going here in my blog (NextGEN Gallery is being a complete pill) so that I can share pictures.  Once that is up and going, I’ll have much more to talk about.  For now, I’ll just mention that we visited five parks (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon (which ended up being my favorite), Epcot Center and Hollywood Studios (which has a really cool rollercoaster and an awesome 50’s-style restaurant which I will need to mention post-pictures because of some of the things they did to customers)).

Okay, I need to quit posting and I need to get the danged gallery up and running again.  First, I need some sleep!  Good night!

Happy Easter!

GoofyI’m not sure that the image on the left really has anything to do with Easter (as a matter of fact, I’m about 110% sure it doesn’t!) but it’s a picture I like and since I’m the author here, I get to choose.  ;-)   Don’t get me going about pictures (see previous post) and we’ll all be happier!

I didn’t get to spend today with Sarah, Isabelle and Violet which was definitely a bummer because from what I hear, they had quite the time at Sarah’s parents’ house, surrounded by family.  I can’t really complain, though, as I’ve had pretty much every other holiday off since I’ve been working on the north slope.  Speaking of work and Easter, I find it odd that Easter is seldom a paid holiday whereas Christmas is.  If you think about what each means, and I was talking to a coworker today about this, they’re definitely similar yet one is very seldom a “paid holiday” whereas the other one nearly always is.  Just kind of odd, if you ask me (which you did, because you’re reading this).

For me, Easter is the reason we have the chance for eternal life.  To live in Heaven with God.  Jesus was resurrected after dieing and, because of that, God grants those of us who believe in Him eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.

I’m curious to hear what Easter means to anyone else who reads this.

GOOD-NESS.

I’ll just say, I’m REALLY annoyed with this blog right now.  I’m hoping my next post (tomorrow.  cross your fingers) will have a much lighter tone to it.

I just wish software would work the way it’s designed to work.  In the words of Forrest Gump, “That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”

Watch out, Seattle, here we come!

That’s right, you read it correctly.  Erik talked to me via Facebook about putting together a reunion.  Naturally, I was wondering what he had in mind but it turns out, he had a pretty good grip on things and had some pretty good ideas on how to put this thing together.  I think all we have left to do is to come up with dates and a venue (probably a park somewhere?).

I put together a list of people out there and, off the top of my head, this is what I came up with (in no real particular order except to say that I THINK I have the 7 kids in the right order):

June, Ross, Darren, Michael, Ian and Natalie
Chris, Marlys, Troy and Cheryl
Charlie, Cathy and Christy
Margie, Pat, Aaron and Amber
Janie, Ed, Erik, Heather and Dori
Bob, Ali, Bobby, Chris and Grace
Lori, Alan, Tara and Bryan

Two things.  Sorry Alan if I misspelled your name.  There are about 37 ways to spell it.  :)  Secondly, these are “us plus kids” meaning that I could guess my way through everyone’s kids’ names but I wouldn’t be 100% positive.  Some I know, some I don’t.  What a perfect opportunity to meet all of the little ankle biters, no?  :)

What have Erik and I come up with besides a list of relatives?  We’ve got a state!  We’ve got a month!  We need your help in deciding the rest!

How does the Seattle area in July sound?  We figured Seattle because it’s pretty central for everyone and the most realistic destination.  As much as we’d love to do this in Kodiak, Seattle makes way more sense.  We’ll figure out WHERE in Seattle at a later time (open to suggestions!!).  I’m thinking the weekend of the 10th and 11th (to throw a suggestion out there).  I don’t know much about Magnuson Park but hey, what the heck?

So that’s what I’ve got.  I’ll be getting with as many of you individually as I possibly can whether it be via email, Facebook or telephone.  Please use the “Comments” to post whether you can or can’t make it.  Once we’ve got something hammered out, we can do something more in the way of a formal announcement / invite type of a thing.
